NEW YORK--The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) is pleased to offer
online, for download on our homepage, www.cyprusactionnetwork.org , original
Memorial Speeches from the state funereal, yesterday, Monday December 15, 2009,
of Tassos Papadopoulos, memory eternal.

The first Memorial Speech is from the Archbishop of Cyprus.

The second Memorial Speech is from medical doctor, poet, EOKA freedom fighter,
and Hellenic intellectual and poet, Dr. Vassos Lyssarides. According to his
website “He was deeply involved in the EOKA struggle in Cyprus against Colonial
Britain from 1955 to 59 and also treated fighters and offered them refuge in his
Nicosia clinic. At the London Conference later he acted as a representative of
EOKA and voted against the Zurich - London agreements which ended the
guerrilla-led rebellion in Cyprus. He believed that the arrangement was not
functional as it was based on racial distinction and was most divisive.”

We also offer a third text written by a childhood friend of Tassos Papadopoulos,
an article to the Cyprus press on the survival of Cyprus against Turkey, written
by Mr. Odysseas Angelides, Vice-President of the UNION of Refugees and Displaced
Persons of Cyprus. In his message today to CANA he remarks “I am dedicated to
the cause of liberating Cyprus and I grieve for the loss of my friend and
fellow-student at the Pancyprian Gymnasium between 1945-51 Tassos Papadopoulos.
Our duty now is to continue the struggle the way he has shown us.”

Memorial Speeches on our homepage, www.cyprusactionnetwork.org are in original
Hellenic and available for download in PDF format.

CANA will continue to offer perspectives and testimonies from activists in the
homeland and in the Diaspora, on our Cause. We are working on building a strong
Network with Refugee Associations in the Homeland that have offered us their
cooperation and support.

All of Cyprus yesterday was shut down for Cyprus to say its final Farewell to
the GREAT HELLENE.

It’s now our duty to continue the struggle.
