The Hellenic state has official condemned the actions taking place inside Gaza. This statement from Hellenic foreign minister shows the world that the Hellenic people are on the side of truth and justice, Freedom and peace, and I for one welcome the responses that are pouring out of Hellas from individual people to the Hellenic Government's position on the matter. Gaza, we hear your cries and Hellenism listens!

Hellenic World Responds to Israeli War Crimes in Gaza

As Israeli forces lays waste to the Gaza Strip for yet a third day, news reports estimate the loss of life to be roughly 364 dead and over 1,500 wounded. One of the most recent casualties of Israeli aggression were five young Palestinian sisters who died in their bed as Israeli air strikes hit the refugee camp their family lived in. I guess Israeli intelligence and their US made smart bombs must have mistaken the boogieman under their bed for a “terrorist”!

Meanwhile help from the Hellenic world comes in the form of medical aid from the island of Cyprus. These shipments are organized by an American based Free Gaza Movement who sail medical supplies donated by the nation of Cyprus to suffering Gaza Palestinians. "We are trying to materialize a humanitarian and medical mission and to send a message to the people of Gaza that they are not alone," said Eleni Theocharous, a doctor and member of the Cyprus parliament.

Inside Hellas itself, Hellenic police battled hundreds of protesters who staged a demonstration outside the Israeli embassy in Athens. The scene turned ugly as police fired teargas into the crowd, as protesters chanted anti-Israel and anti-US slogans and attempted to break the police barricade. The Hellenic world has taken a stand, we have made it clear to the people of Gaza and the entire Palestinian nation, We Hellenes stand beside you!

NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) has been informed by
founding member of CANA , and selfless activist and proud Phil Hellene and
Chinese American Foti Makritoxonis recently, that CNN broadcast a TV
commercial for FYROM in its December 28, 2008 evening broadcast displaying what
is perceived to be an artistic rendition of the STAR OF VERGINA. The TV
commercial on CNN is apparently for FYROM or Slav-Vardarska. The commercial is
titled “Macedonia Timeless by Milco Mancevski “and can be viewed in this you
tube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtYrDVqr7IQ

SLAV-VARDARSKA VERSUS HELLENIC PRIDE

This current offensive CNN TV commercial follows on the heels of the
spectacularly successful letter writing to STOP THE “MACEDONIAN” VISA CARD
initiative by the combined efforts of Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA)
and , Hellenic League of America which was originally informed of the STAR OF
VERGINA VISA Card issued for the Washington DC-based lobby UMD United
Macedonian Diaspora , by activist Pantelis Kontos in New Jersey, who was made
aware of this by the patriotic and informative public internet message board
“MACEDONIA ON THE WEB” In turn, the main core of activists for CANA and
Hellenic League of America sprung immediately into action to save Macedonian
Hellenism. Foti Makritoxonis designed the “STOP THE ANTI-HELLENIC HATE! STOP THE
ANTI-HELLENIC LOBBY!” campaign graphics and weblog: http://stoptheantihelleniclobby.wordpress.com/,
the letter writing ACTION ALERTS and SPECIAL REPORTS were written by Nikolaos
Taneris, and Ioannis Fidanakis and then sent out to the thousands of members of
the CANA E-list.

WHO ARE WE AND WHO BACKS US

Basically , the initiative by the activist team of Foti Makritoxonis, Georgia
Maratheftis, Pantelis Kontos, Sevasti Boutos , John Soudas, Nikolaos Taneris,
and Ioannis Fidanakis and the amazing Network of journalists, writers, and
bloggers and CANA E-list members created a thus far unprecedented letter
campaign of support that included an official letter of Thank You from AHEPA to
CANA, and a letter to the CEO of VISA, Mr Joseph Saunders co-written by Hellenic
Congressional Caucaus co-Chairs US Congressional Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla) and
US Congressional Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) (Please see the CANA website for
all original documents)

The Voice of America News in Greek transmitted the story of our letter writing
campaign to save the STAR OF VERGINA, http://www.voanews.com/greek/2008-12-14-voa1.cfm

WE thank Γιώργος Μπίστης George Bistis the Washington DC VOA correspondent, and
we also thank the editors of New York local newspaper, THE QUEENS GAZETTE that
got our letter writing campaign into print AND SYNDICATION, and that includes a
news brief in the super high circulation of USA TODAY.
http://www.qgazette.com/news/2008/1224/features/012.html

The use of all facets of the internet, smart letter writing and coordinated
media savvy grass-roots activism makes us “an unprecedented Hellenic-American
organization” according the respected writer and life-long activist for the
Cyprus Cause, Michaelis Stylianou , in TO PARON:
http://www.paron.gr/v3/new.php?id=32639&colid=&catid=42&dt=2008-09-28%200:0:0

The reason why there is such a “buzz” about us, the reason why the Turkish and
Slav-Vardaskan press attacks us and warns about us, the reason why so many
grass-roots Hellenic-Americans and Phil Hellenes respond to our action alerts,
and the reason why many of the most respected journalists and writers in the
Hellenic world write so respectfully of us is because we are the real deal. We
are not ‘ system players’ out to network the cocktail circuit in the prism of
business first, church and diplomatic corps, unlike like so many large
“established” well-heeled groups who have let down Hellenism for so many
decades. Our Network is for Hellenic Pride World Wide. We are Hellene and Phil
Hellene πατριώτες (Patriots)

WHAT IS TO BE DONE?

All Hellenes and Phil Hellenes are encouraged to turn their backs on the
“sell-outs” and come to us. Not only do we struggle against the enemy without,
we also do not shirk away from pointing out those within the Hellenic-American
community who support our enemy, who support false historical revisionism and
appeasement to the illegal occupiers and Anti-Hellenism.
Our movement that was started by the small numerical core of Nikolaos Taneris,
Sevasti Boutos, John Soudas, Georgia Maratheftis, Ioannis Fidanakis, Pantelis
Kontos and Foti Makritoxonis successfully stopped the VISA card with the STAR OF
VERGINA.

WE WON, “MACEDONIAN” LOBBY LOSES

The VISA Credit Card Affinity Partners INC. capitulated and offered us a public
statement because of the pressure of letters and the very real plan we had to
Protest the offices of VISA Credit Card Affinity Program in New York if no
public statement was issued. The original letter can be found on Ioannis
Fidanakis’ weblog:
http://enocism.blogspot.com/2008/12/cardpartner-releases-statement-on-umd.htm

HELLENIC REVOLUTION IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

We are the only Hellenic-American organization that can and does organize
demonstrations in America TODAY. No other organization can achieve this or can
do this, and we challenge them to do so, EVERY YEAR we will Protest the Turkish
Embassy on July 20th until the Turks pay for their Crimes and leave the Great
Island of Cyprus forever. We challenge any Cyprus organizations in America to do
so, or to dissolve, throw out their outdated and uninspiring “leadership” and
join us.
For the record, Hellenic League of America was incorporated by with the
assistance of Georgia Maratheftis, and was designed by visionary Nikolaos
Taneris with the assistance of Ioannis Fidanakis, who is the current coordinator
of Hellenic League of America. The core executive members of Cyprus Action
Network of America (CANA) are as follows Nikolaos Taneris, Sevasti Boutos, John
Soudas, Georgia Maratheftis, Ioannis Fidanakis, Pantelis Kontos and Foti
Makritoxonis and are interchangeable with Hellenic League of America.

Even though we achieved this victory over the “MACEDONIAN” VISA CARD, our
enemies continue their relentless campaign of false historical revisionism and
barbaric territorial aggression, the CNN TV commercial is the just recent
example of Slav-Vardaskan assertiveness and flexing of muscle, the Turkish lobby
ATAA is this month promoting a false historical revisionism movie about 1960s
Cyprus, and this holiday season also hosted a “Macedonian and Turkish Mixer” at
the Turkish Embassy.
We will continue to monitor, recruit and when necessary mobilize to fight back
with radical action.

As a true grass-roots organization we value your complaints, advice, feedback or
praise and can be reached by Email: CANA@cyprusactionnetwork.org

Join us, and support us, and stand up for Hellenic Human Rights.

World watches in Horror: Gaza attacks continue

As Israel continues there attacks on the region of Gaza, the civilized world watches in horror praying and pleading with the Israeli authorities to end the siege. The death toll continues to rise today in Gaza as innocent Palestinians are forced to run and hide from Israeli military attacks using American made munitions. Meanwhile thousands have rallied around Europe and the civilized world to protest the ongoing assault on Gaza by Israeli forces. These attacks on the Palestinian people are uncalled for and must end admittedly! Even now as Israeli bombs are killing innocent women and children in Gaza, Israel tries to play the victim. Hellenic Politician George Karatzaferis, the leader of the LAOS party released a statement comparing Israel and its actions in Gaza to the actions of Hitler in World War Two. A comment that spark anger from the Israeli ambassador to Hellas, with the following statement, "Racism is not in Greece's culture. I'm saddened by the pathetic statement made by Mr. Karatzaferis; it shows, if nothing else, complete historic ignorance. It is the Jewish people that were the prey of racism." But of course how foolish of Mr. Karatzaferis, Israelis are immune to committing actions of Racism! It's not in there 'DNA'.

Oh to be Israeli,
immune to thoughts and actions of Racism,
able to massacres hundreds of innocent women and children and still be seen international as the non aggressors - the victims in fact of 'Terrorism', oh to be an Israeli - a God amongst men.

Shame on the Israelis to hell with them!

Israel no part of civilized world: End Gaza Massacre

As the dust settles in Gaza the truth shines through the clouds of deception. Possible 230 Palestinians DEAD and over 700 wounded by the first of many attacks declared by Israel. While the lies of the Israeli government and its puppet states attempt to hide the true brutality taking place inside Gaza, hundreds of Israel’s own citizens went to the streets to protests the killing of innocent Palestinians. Hundreds in Tel Aviv condemned the attacks as ‘genocide and war crimes’ before the storm troopers of the Zionist regime arrested five and broke up the peaceful demonstration. The chairman of the Israeli Balad Party called for Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to be tried for war crimes. The Israeli controlled, United States and Britain have refused to call an end to Israel’s genocidal activities in the Gaza strip, while world leaders called for an admitted end to the attacks by Israel. A statement from the European Union on the Israeli military action stated, "We are very concerned at the events in Gaza. We call for an immediate ceasefire and urge everybody to exert maximum restraint,"

Hellenism triumphs over Skopian Revisionism

For Immediate Release: December 26, 2008

Contact: Ioannis Fidanakis, New Jersey, Tel. 1-973-464-0211

On December 19th Senior Director of Creative Services, Mark Levitt, of CardPartner, Inc released an official statement concerning the “United Macedonian Diaspora” UMD’s Visa affinity credit card program and its use of the ancient pan-Hellenic religious symbol of the Sun of Vergina also known as the Star of Vergina. In this official statement Mr. Levitt confirms that “CardPartner is no longer offering the card featuring the ‘Star of Vergina’ image, nor will it be offered on any CardPartner products in the future”, securing the protection of the Star of Vergina from future use by the UMD with their affinity credit card program.

This victory could serve as precedents for future struggles over the symbols illegal use by Skopian revisionists and extremist’s organizations like the UMD. Mr. Levitt continues in the statement and addresses the Hellenic-American community stating, “Please know – and please be sure your supporters know- that any offense was unintentional and not done out of malice. We thank the Hellenic League of America for bringing the history of the ‘Star of Vergina’ to our attention and we are pleased to have resolved this matter professionally and without the need for a protest”.

The official statement from CardPartner comes after a two week campaign launched by the Stop the Anti-Hellenic Hate coalition on December 7th 2008. This coalition, which was a grass-roots collection of organizations and individual activists from the New York-New Jersey area, was started by the Hellenic League of America and Cyprus Action Network of America. The coalition of activists joined together to take on the mounting historical revisionism and anti-Hellenism taking place around the world.

The campaign was originally launched when a HLA activist informed the groups Coordinator of the newly created UMD affinity Credit Card displaying the ‘Star of Vergina’. The organization quickly sprung into action and with the aid of CANA, beginning a letter writing campaign for the removal of the Star of Vergina from the UMD’s credit card. This campaign for the removal of the sacred Star of Vergina took a positive step forward on December 12th when the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) joined the grass-roots campaign bring with them the support of Hellenic Caucus Co-Chairs Carolyn Maloney (D-14-NY) and Gus M. Bilirakis (R-9-FL), who wrote a joint letter to Mr. Joseph Saunders, CEO and chairman, Visa, Inc.

When asked about the victory over the UMD, Hellenic League of America Coordinator, Ioannis Fidanakis had the following to say, “This is a historical and important victory for the Hellenic-American community. This quick and decisive victory goes to show how important grass-roots activism really is to defending Hellenism today. I hope that our community’s much larger; more established and well funded organizations capitalize on our small victory. The battle might be won, but the war isn’t over.”

You may post any HLA article, press release or action alert on the internet as long as you credit HLA and the author(s).

When racism is acceptable: Israeli Racism

The walls of a Mosque in Jaffa were vandalized early Sunday morning with messages of hate towards the city's Arab population. "Death to Arabs" and other messages were spray painted on walls and doors of the building causing tension between the city's Arab and Jewish populations. Yet where is the media coverage? Why has this type of hate crime gone unnoticed and unspoken about by the majority of the Media? Silence and Media blackouts of such hate crimes are just as bad as the crime itself. What a life it must be to be an Israeli, when the whole world is outlawed from standing against or disagreeing with you for fear of being called racist or anti-Semitic, yet you can be as racist and hateful towards others as you wish? What a double standard! Oh to be an Israeli. . .

Lone woman rants about anti-Hellenic holiday

Barbara Grossman an upset and enraged Jewish woman from Montana recently let her feelings known about the lack of Hanukkah recognition in her Christian dominated state. "I am a Jewish 70-year-young mother and grandmother. I live in Montana and have had the worst cultural shock of my life. Here in the largest city of Montana, the holidays, especially Christmas, are primarily for the Christians." I hate to be the voice of reason, but Ms Grossman, Don't live in a Christian neighborhood if you want to be around those who celebrated the same holidays as yourself! If i wanted to see Christmas lights and trees, I wouldn't live in a predominately Jewish neighborhood, its just common sense. If the neighborhood you live in is predominately Christian it makes absolute sense for the lack of Hanukkah gear in the stores. Those are the breaks, and before you start ranting and raving, perhaps you should think before you speak.

"Hanukkah is in fact primarily a celebration of Jewish national liberation. It is a celebration of the difficult Jewish battle against Hellenism. And, in that sense it identifies clearly for us the most important issues on the Jewish political agenda, both in America and Israel. The true meaning and the main challenge, indeed the raison d'etre, of Zionism in the 21st century will be fighting these twin movements of Hellenism in Israel and in the Diaspora."
Steve Plaut, a Zionist Jewish intellectual about the meaning of Hanukka and the today threat of Hellenic thought against Judaism

Second, seeing that Hanukkah is a racist anti-Hellenic holiday, I myself am offended when I am forced to see such decoration in public. Christmas on the other hand, has no dark twisted racist agenda, yet it is still forced to be 'DE-Christianized' into "X-Mas' to make people like yourself happy. Well when are Jewish people going to become politically correct and stop promoting a blatantly racist holiday against Hellenes?

OPEN LETTER TO A CYPRIOT ORGANIZATION : A LESSON ON PATRIOTISM AND RESISTANCE

marangosb@aol.com; pafos628@msn.com; savvasny@aol.com

We are in receipt of a Press Release issued by the “Pan Paphian Association” in
which you make public your plans to award two individuals on the evening of
January 31, 2009 in New York, with awards of merit, supposedly for their service
to Cyprus, and Hellenism in Cyprus.

The Press Release is offensive because of the mention of two individuals and
their awards by the Pan Paphian Association, namely:

Mr. Panicos Papanicolaou - The Evagoras Pallikarides Award of Merit
Mrs. Elena Maroulleti - The Distinguished Fellow Cyprian Award

Mr. Panicos Papanicolaou as head of “Cyprus Federation of America” reportedly
supported and financed the controversial 6th Grade Revisionist history books by
the foreign interest NGO CDRSEE, as is indicated on the CDRSEE official website:

Please view the graphic in the lower left hand side of the page where “Cyprus
Federation of America” run by Panicos Papanicolaou is thanked for the financial
aid to the Revisionist project:
“The joint history project has been made possible through the kind financial
assistance of the following:
Dr Peter Mahringer Fonds, The Royal Dutch Embassy in Athens, Two anonymous
donors, Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, UK FCO, Swiss
Development Agency,
Cyprus Federation of America, Winston Foundation for World Peace”

http://www.cdsee.org/jhp/index.html

For An Over View Of the Revisionist Books Visit this link:

http://panmacedonian.info/6th_grade_history_EN.htm

Which begs the question why is Panicos/Cyprus Federation of America supporting
revisionist schoolbooks with a false historical revisionist political agenda
instead of focusing on Hellenic projects for the liberation of our poor,
beleaguered people? Why is Panicos depriving Hellenic youth of the truth about
our glorious ancestors who gave everything, asked for nothing and never begged
for anything? Our ancestors who gave everything to free Cyprus and all of Free
Greece from the bloodthirsty and racist English tyrants and from the barbaric
and genocidal Turk?

Moreover , the revisionist history books by the CDRSEE upon examination
blaspheme the good name of the Hellenic resistance movement known as “EOKA” and
its martyrs and heroes , Auxentios and Diogenes and all of the Hellenes in
Cyprus from the age of eight years old to the age of seventy at the time of EOKA
who sacrificed so that Cyprus may be free from the evil, white supremacist rule
of the British Empire, which enslaved not only Cyprus but also massacred and
oppressed great swathes of our beautiful world.

In this history book, that Panicos apparently helped produce, EOKA is cauterized
as …..A “terrorist” organization!

Ask yourselves this question when you step up and award and clap for Panicos
Papanicolaou on the evening of January 31st, 2009. This change in historical
depiction and its distortion is an affront to Hellenism and to the blessed
memory of all those who,, fought, died and were affected by Ottoman/Turkish
brutality and Slavic, and English, territorial aggression. Hellenes should be
taught and made aware of the history, , and historical context of their region
so as to be better prepared to deal with their neighbors. As a Cypriot
organization what have you accomplished to equip today’s Hellenes to deal with
the barbarians who occupy our homeland every single day? The answer is by
awarding Panicos, tipota.

Think about this on that night.

As for Elena Marouletti, who inherited a radio program such as it is from her
mother whose blessed memory should be eternal. Elena Maroulleti who owns and
manages several NY-based media outlets such as AKTINA FM that get large amounts
of government funding to promote Greek culture and community events,
specifically called us “sick” ,in writing ,for us challenging her on her
censorship of any announcement about our Protest of the Turkish Embassy, and
refused and censored several requests from her own Cypriot community to make
announcements about the CANA protest against the Turkish Embassy to mark the
Turkish invasion of Cyprus. This issue of censorship by AKTINA FM led to a
letter writing campaign by activists, and was covered even by major Greek blogs:
Please see: http://troktiko.blogspot.com/2008/08/fm.html

We are also informed that Elena Marouletti referred to Rauf Denktash the Turkish
terrorist leader responsible for so much death and misery in Cyprus as “your
Excellency”

Does Elena Marouletti support the illegal and criminal “TRNC Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus”?

Is this what she communicated to the world by addressing the murderer Denktash
as “your Excellency”?

Does Elena Marouletti support the cold blooded murder of Cypriot demonstrators
Solomou and Issac who were killed in 1996 by officials of Denktash and by a
lynch mob of fascist Grey Wolves imported from Turkey by Denktash ,is this what
she means when she refers to Denktash as “your Excellency”?

Does Elena Marouletti support the TMT terrorist organization which Denktash led,
that murdered house by house, family by family, with cold blunt instruments and
bombs and hatchets so many innocent Cypriot people? Is this why she called
Denktash, “your Excellency”?

Does Elena Marouletti support “The Talaat Pasha Historical Memory Committee”
which in Europe organizes rallys that deny Genocide and distribute fascist Grey
Wolf hate literature? Is this why she refers to Denktash as “your Excellency”?

Please ask Elena Marouletti all these questions who you award her on January
31st, 2009.

Thank you for your time, and I hope that you do the right thing, and cancel
these awards, you owe it to our ancestors, you owe it to our families, you owe
it to Hellenism, and you owe it to Cyprus.

The Greater Picture Revealed: Riots continue in Hellas

It has taken 13 days of protests, fire bombings, and looting to finally move past the illusion of a young boys death as the real trigger the current violent actions against the Hellenic government and are now beginning to see the original intent of the anarchist movement. The removal of the current legitimate regime in Athens. Something that if accomplished will allow the return of corrupt socialist rule, whose party leadership has past to a new generation of the same old suspects. This sudden outburst against the government, which was instigated by Anarchists and the Political left, was a planed decision by American puppets to remove the legitimate Hellenic government for its failure to bend to the will of the almighty United States’ revisionist attempts in the Balkans. It is this act of treason by the Political left, which has resulted in millions of dollars worth of damage to the center of the Hellenic state, Athens and damaged our image overseas.

MEMORIAL SPEECHES FOR TASSOS PAPADOPOULOS :CANA CONTINUES THE STRUGGLE

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Contact: Nikolaos Taneris, New York, Tel. 1-917-699-9935.

NEW YORK--The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) is pleased to offer
online, for download on our homepage, www.cyprusactionnetwork.org , original
Memorial Speeches from the state funereal, yesterday, Monday December 15, 2009,
of Tassos Papadopoulos, memory eternal.

The first Memorial Speech is from the Archbishop of Cyprus.

The second Memorial Speech is from medical doctor, poet, EOKA freedom fighter,
and Hellenic intellectual and poet, Dr. Vassos Lyssarides. According to his
website “He was deeply involved in the EOKA struggle in Cyprus against Colonial
Britain from 1955 to 59 and also treated fighters and offered them refuge in his
Nicosia clinic. At the London Conference later he acted as a representative of
EOKA and voted against the Zurich - London agreements which ended the
guerrilla-led rebellion in Cyprus. He believed that the arrangement was not
functional as it was based on racial distinction and was most divisive.”

We also offer a third text written by a childhood friend of Tassos Papadopoulos,
an article to the Cyprus press on the survival of Cyprus against Turkey, written
by Mr. Odysseas Angelides, Vice-President of the UNION of Refugees and Displaced
Persons of Cyprus. In his message today to CANA he remarks “I am dedicated to
the cause of liberating Cyprus and I grieve for the loss of my friend and
fellow-student at the Pancyprian Gymnasium between 1945-51 Tassos Papadopoulos.
Our duty now is to continue the struggle the way he has shown us.”

Memorial Speeches on our homepage, www.cyprusactionnetwork.org are in original
Hellenic and available for download in PDF format.

CANA will continue to offer perspectives and testimonies from activists in the
homeland and in the Diaspora, on our Cause. We are working on building a strong
Network with Refugee Associations in the Homeland that have offered us their
cooperation and support.

All of Cyprus yesterday was shut down for Cyprus to say its final Farewell to
the GREAT HELLENE.

It’s now our duty to continue the struggle.

Protests continue in Ellada - Students become 'tools' for the Left

For roughly two weeks anarchists, illegal immigrants, and Hellenic students have taking to the streets protesting, rioting, and looting all of Ellada. Some of them see these riots as a chance to attack the nation-state of there enemy, others see it as a chance to attack a system of government they no longer see as legitimate, and others believe this is all about police brutality and a poor teenagers death. In reality they are all tools of the socialist agenda to overthrow the current Hellenic government and replace it with another corrupt, family controlled political party who will only run our country deeper into debt and political crisis.

Kurdish support for the American War on Terror seems to be unquestionable. Northern Iraq is one of the safest regions in the country for US troops. Kurds have stood by the Americans time and time again in Iraq, yet the United States continues to support Kurdish enemies, like Turkey. The most recent 'attack' on President George W. Cleopatra: Black or White?

Well historians are back at it again, was the famous Cleopatra Black or White? Using computer-generated 3D images, the face of a mixed ethnic woman appears as the face of the famous Cleopatra. Many may not understand the importance of such a claim and its connections to antihellenism. Although the Egyptologist Sally Ann Ashton, who has pushed this most recent question along, does make the point to identify the Egyptian Monarch's Hellenic heritage through the dynasty's Macedonian Hellenic legacy, she fails to understand the racist nature of the very question she is posing. The 'Blackifing' of Hellenic history and figures to give Black Africa some type of historical legitimacy in Egypt is wrong. Just as the book Black Athena was a blatant racist attack on Hellenic history, so is the revisionist attempts to create a Black Cleopatra. Although I’m sure miss Ashton did not have any racist intentions, she has unknowing walked into very dangerous waters.

Turkish intellectuals issue apology to Armenians

Monday, December 15, 2008
By SUZAN FRASER, Associated Press Writer

ANKARA, Turkey — A group of about 200 Turkish intellectuals on Monday issued an apology on the Internet for the World War I-era massacres of Armenians in Turkey.

The group of prominent academics, journalists, writers and artists avoided using the contentious term "genocide" in the apology, using the less explosive "Great Catastrophe" instead.

"My conscience does not accept that (we) remain insensitive toward and deny the Great Catastrophe that the Ottoman Armenians were subjected in 1915," read the apology. "I reject this injustice, share in the feelings and pain of my Armenian brothers, and apologize to them."

The apology is a sign that many in Turkey are ready to break a long-held taboo against acknowledging Turkish culpability for the deaths.

AHEPA Raises Issue of Improper Use of Star of Vergina to Congress

Maloney, Bilirakis Applauded for Their Letter to Visa CEO

Washington (December 12, 2008)—The American Hellenic Educational Progressive
Association (AHEPA), a leading association for the nation’s three million
American citizens of Greek ancestry, and countless Philhellenes, applauds
Hellenic Caucus Co-Chairs Carolyn Maloney (D-14-NY) and Gus M. Bilirakis
(R-9-FL) for sending a letter to Mr. Joseph Saunders, CEO and chairman, Visa,
Inc., today. The letter expressed a strong concern about a Visa credit card
portraying the Star of Vergina.

“We felt this was a serious issue to bring to the attention of Congress,” said
Supreme President Ike Gulas. “It is another example of how Greece ’s cultural
and historical identity is threatened by ‘Macedonian’ Diaspora groups who aspire
to steal it and make it their own. I commend Representatives Maloney and
Bilirakis for understanding the severity of the issue and for taking action.”

The letter states:

“We have long been concerned about efforts by the Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia (FYROM) and its diaspora to adopt symbols and images significant to
Greece as part of a propaganda campaign. We believe that the "United Macedonian
Diaspora's" efforts regarding this credit card may be yet another example.”

Furthermore, the Hellenic Caucus Co-Chairs encouraged Mr. Saunders to reconsider
issuing a credit card with the Star of Vergina on it, and recommended he work
with the Greek-American community to prevent a similar occurrence from happening
in the future.

The supreme president also acknowledged and thanked the efforts of
the Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA). CANA raised awareness of the issue
within its network.

“It’s a good example of what can transpire when we combine our
resources and work together as a community,” said Gulas.

AHEPA was established in 1922, by visionary Greek-Americans to protect all from
prejudice from the KKK, and in its history, AHEPA has joined with the NAACP and
B’nai B’rith International to fight discrimination.

Congress Members Rep. Maloney and Rep. Bilirakis Send Letter To VISA CEO!

NEW YORK--The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) and the Hellenic League of
America are proud to announce today that the Co-Chairs of the Hellenic Caucus in
the US Congress, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney [D-NY] and U.S. Rep. Gus M.
Bilirakis (R-Fla.) have co-written a letter sent today to VISA CEO Joseph
Saunders based on our actions to stop the false historical revisionism of the
“United Macedonian Diaspora UMD” and to stop the VISA “Macedonian” Card with a
Star of Vergina, that belongs to Greece.

We thank our Members of Congress and encourage our grass-roots to continue
writing letters and to please take the time to personally thank our Congress
members for their commitment to historical truth and Hellenism.

Please find the PDF original letter from the Co-Chairs of the Hellenic Caucus,
Reps. Maloney and Bilirakis to Visa CEO Joseph Saunders on links in our

CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES
Washington DC, 20515
December 12, 2008
Mr. Joseph W. Saunders
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Visa, Inc.
P.O. Box 8999
San Francisco, CA 941 28-8999

Dear Mr. Saunders,

As co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues and the
congressional
Representatives for large Greek-American constituencies, we are writing to
express our strong
concern about a Visa card portraying the Star of Vergina to be issued by UMB
Bank on behalf of
the "United Macedonian Diaspora."

We have long been concerned about efforts by the Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia (FYROM) and its diaspora to adopt symbols and images significant to
Greece as part
of a propaganda campaign. We believe that the "United Macedonian Diaspora's"
efforts
regarding this credit card may be yet another example.

The Star of Vergina, unearthed in the 1970s during archaeological excavations in
the
Greek province of Macedonia, is copyrighted exclusively by Greece and protected
by the Paris
Convention for the Protection of State Emblems, and Names, Abbreviations and
Emblems of
International Intergovernmental Organizations under the WIPO (World Intellectual
Property
Organization). All historical and archaeological evidence demonstrates that the
ancient
Macedonians were Greek. Macedonia is a Greek name that has designated the
northern area of
Greece for 2,500 years.

Therefore, we would strongly urge Visa, Inc., to reconsider issuing this credit
card with
the Star of Vergina on it, and to work with Greek-Americans to ensure that this
type of situation
does not occur in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
-

Member of Congress
CAROLYN B. MALONEY

Member of Congress
GUS M. BILIRAKIS

Greece's "Alternative" Bookburners

They burn books in Democracy's Cradle

Western Voices staff/Hellenic Lines

The news is full of images and reports of widespread violence consuming many cities in Greece. While the rioting was sparked by white "anarchist" anger over a police shooting of a teenage thug who was part of a gang throwing bottles at cop cars in Athens, there's something the "mainstream" media isn't telling you. According to Western Voices World News sources in Europe, which will soon be confirmed by "mainstream" media outlets, the rioters are largely Third World immigrants angered at the "slow" process of the highly overburdened Greek asylum processing system. "Asylum seekers," Third Worlders who have learned to claim political persecution back home in order to extend their stay in Greece, are using the chaos to loot Greek property and express their anger at a system that doesn't give them what they want.

THE RISING WAVE OF ANTI-HELLENISM: PAN MACEDONIAN OFFICES, GREEK CONSULATE

For Immediate Release: December 12, 2008

Contact: Nikolaos Taneris, New York, Tel. 1-917-699-9935,
Ioannis Fidanakis, New Jersey, Tel. 1-973-464-0211

NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) and the Hellenic League of
America is concerned with the rising wave of Anti-Hellenism in recent days
around the world. The Greek consulate in Constantinople was vandalized and
doused in red paint, in London the Greek Embassy was almost forcibly occupied
,and In New York the consulate general of Greece was victim to a brick and spray
paint attack and impromptu demonstration by 18-20 hateful individuals of
non-Hellenic origin just this past Wednesday.

Following on the heels of our letter writing campaign to VISA to cancel the
false historical revisionism of the Washington DC-based “United Macedonian
Diaspora UMD”, we have received reports indicating that the Australian Pan
Macedonian offices were vandalized and pictures of Alexander The Great were torn
to pieces along with serious damage to doors, computers and office furniture.
Pictures of the attack are available on Ioannis Fidanakis’ weblog, in this blog
entry link: http://enocism.blogspot.com/2008/12/pan-macedonian-association-in-australia.html

Individuals wishing to express condolences to the Pan Macedonian Association in
Australia, and offer them their support can contact them through their
organizational Email: AMAC

Anti-Hellenism (in Greek: Áíèåëëçíéóìüò) is a hate movement of racist hostility
toward the Greek people, culture and country. Incidents of Anti-Hellenism are
often spurred on by racist diatribes by often Anglo-Saxon, Turkish and
Slavo-Mongol or Slav-Vardaskan writers and media communications. Several lobbies
in Washington DC have definite Anti-Hellenic racist agendas (i.e. “United
Macedonian Diaspora UMD” and “Assembly of Turkish American Associations ATAA”)
Territorial claims and disputes connected with the modern state of Greece are
part of the root cause to this ugly form of racism: there are actually Turkish
and other Balkan extremist groups (such as the Grey Wolves) and governments
(Turkey and Vardarska aka “FYROM”) who claim part or all of Greece's land and
sea. These racist groups associated with those governments have also been
involved in arson, rapes and murders through racist lynchings of Hellenes.
Various Anti-Hellenic racist slurs have crept into the Western world, such as
false accusations that “Greece is a toilet” or that “Greeks are Mongrels” or
racist caricatures of Greeks as demented perverts, and have appeared in
everything from official publications, newspapers, mass media and on the
internet to dangerous degrees.

CANA and the Hellenic League of America in coalition with other
Hellenic-American organizations will soon release a position paper on the
perpetrators of Anti-Hellenism and the rising tide of rabid Anti-Hellenism
around the world. Moreover, we encourage all Hellenes or ethnic Greeks to band
together to show the world that we will not live in fear.

We are monitoring the situation and as descendents of ethnic cleansings and
Genocides (including the Asia Minor Holocaust) which have yet to be fully
recognized, we intend to send the message out that “NEVER AGAIN” will we live in
fear of being burned out of our homes, of being raped and tortured and brutally
degraded and marched off by means of ropes and whips to be massacred.

THE TIME HAS COME TO STAND UP FOR JUSTICE AND FIGHT BACK!

The True face behind Hellenic Riots: Anarchist connection with Albanians

By Ioannis Fidanakis

As all of Ellada burns, anarchist supporters of these protests and riots fail to realize the damage they are committing against their own countrymen and not against the system that deserves to be attacked. Hellenic flags are being burned in the streets and Hellenic businesses and homes destroyed, while anarchists march threw the streets flying ALBANIAN flags! Are these anarchists in anyway shape or form patriots? Are they fighting against police brutality or are they the instrument of our enemies to bring down our legitimate government and replace it with a more friendly anti-hellenic one? Hellenes! Awaken! The young Alexandros' death is nothing more then an excuse for our enemies to destroy our nation from within! I urge the Hellenic people to come to there senses and stand against the anarchists, who wish to destroy our very nation through our own children.

Pan-Macedonian Association in Australia vandalized

By Ioannis Fidanakis

On Sunday December 7th the offices of the Australian Pan-Macedonian Association were broken into and vandalized. This direct attack against Macedonian Hellenism is just one in a long line of manifestations of Antihellenism. The unknown assailants remain at large, although rumors have surfaced across the internet to who may be responsible for this act of hate. Assailants destroyed doors, computers, even pictures of Alexander the Great. Authorities have begun an investigation, although the Australian media seems to be silent on this blatant act of racism against the Hellenic-Australian community.

We have yet to receive a written statement from Card Partner Inc. about the
offensive “Macedonian” VISA card, and we have yet to see a commitment to cancel

I am contacting you today on the behalf of, Stop The Anti-Hellenic Lobby,
(www.stopt heantihelleniclobby.wordpress.com) which is a growing grass-roots
coalition organized by Hellenic-American activist organizations such as Hellenic
League of America and Cyprus Action Network of America.

We recently spoke several days ago about a VISA affiliate credit card that your
company helped create for the ‘United Macedonian Diaspora” – the UMD. In our
conversation, I informed you that one of their card designs was in violation of
copyright infringement, as the Vergina Sun aka Star of Vergina was copyrighted
by the Greek government. I followed up our phone conversation with an email, in
which, you affirmed information on the copyrighted symbol.

Hellenic-American activists have told us that in conversations with you, that
you indicated to them that Visa has pulled this card design from the original
rotation of designs offered by the program. Is this true?

We would appreciate written clarification from you that CardPartner Inc. did or
did not "pull" the "Star of Vergina" symbol designed in collaboration with

VISA card offer upsets Greeks
December 10, 2008 – 8:14 pm

A VISA affinity card promoted by a group called United Macedonian Diaspora Fund
(UMD) is deeply offending ethnic Greeks because the card uses the Star of
Vergina, a Hellenic symbol from the ancient Greece.

“The United Macedonian Diaspora UMD a Washington DC-based lobby [is] promoting
false historical revisionism,” says a statement of the Cyprus Action Network of
America or CANA.

United Macedonian Diaspora UMD promoter, Denis Manevski, has failed to respond
to our inquiries. Mr. Manevski declined to answer us after he replied twice to
serbianna.com inquiries with questions of his own.

“Star of Vergina symbol that is copyrighted exclusively in all its forms by the
Hellenic Republic, in violation of Article 6ter of the Paris Convention for the
Protection of State Emblems, and Names, Abbreviations and Emblems of
International Intergovernmental Organizations under the WIPO (World Intellectual
Property Organization),” says CANA.

A Star of Vergina as promoted by the United Macedonian Diaspora Fund was
originally used on the flag of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia but it
was subsequently modified because it is a Greek symbol.

Nikolaos Taneris, of the Cyprus Action Network of America, says that the star
used on FYROM flag is the “1995 diplomatic compromise with the Greek state which
holds the trademark to the Star of Vergina”.

In 1945, communists, led by Croatian Tito and in cooperation with the
Bulgarian-born adviser to Stalin, Georgi Dimitrov, decided to form a unique
so-called “macedonian” church and a corresponding “macedonian” nationality out
of the Byzantine recognized Serbian church parishes in today’s Macedonia, only
in order to use that creation as a pretext to attack Greece and conquer parts of
it.

Dimitrov advised Stalin and had influence on the international communist policy
making body called Cominform. Cominform said that the Serbs are chauvinists and
that Kosovo should eventually be given to Albania. Bulgaria and Macedonia have
both recently recognized Kosovo as an independent state.

No Ecumenical Church has recognized the self-proclaimed “macedonian” church.

Bishop from Ohrid, Jovan, has been imprisoned by the Skopje authorities several
times because he has suggested that the renegade “macedonian” church should
unite back with its holy apostolic sea.

Bulgaria has recently marked it’s independence in Macedonia’s capital of Skopje
while the opposition party in Bulgaria has demanded more land from Serbia and
Greece.

Many in today’s Macedonia, despite that they are Slavs, believe that they are
descendants of the Hellenic leader Alexander the Great to whom the Star of
Vergina is attributed to.

Greece is worried that such beliefs are deliberately fostered by the government
in Skopje in order to seek Greek territory and has vowed to block Skopje’s entry
into NATO and other EU institutions unless it compromises on the matter.

“Using the United Macedonian Diaspora Affinity Credit Card for everyday
purchases is an easy way for supporters to help further the Macedonian cause,”
said Denis Manevski, UMD Treasurer, on the web site.

With offices boasting to be in Washington DC, Brussels, Canberra, London,
Melbourne, New York, Paris, Stuttgart, Sydney, and Toronto, one of the United
Macedonian Diaspora Fund missions is to “Defend the Macedonian ethnic identity”.

Who are the protesters in Greece?

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

The fatal police shooting of a teenager in Athens on Saturday and its violent aftermath are in many ways a spill over of a decades-long conflict that has simmered between police and far-left anarchist groups.

The violence has also laid bare a deeper anger that has been gaining ground in Greece over the government's policies in slashing budget deficits and pushing on with unpopular reforms such as privatisations

Riots in Greece: The undercover news

By Ioannis Michaletos

The present blog has as a main aim to inform a specialized and enlightened audience of the “undercover” nature of events in the Balkan area within the security sector.

In this case, an alternative point of view is going to be presented which derives from a careful analysis and observation of the riots in Greece and reliable information streaming from the domestic security circles. For obvious reasons, matters concerning operational or intelligence procedures will not be mentioned or commented.

New Ethnic Hellenic Flag Proposal

My most recent flag proposal is one of unity and brotherhood for all Hellenes across the world. It is my hope that this flag will come to represent the Hellenic people on a purely ethnic level in hopes of uniting all people who regard themselves as Hellenes under one unifying symbol unconnected to the modern Hellenic nation-state.

The Flag would be classified as an ‘Ethnic Flag’ to symbolize the Hellenic ethnicity and identity under one banner, regardless of religious affiliation, linguistics, or location of birth and residence. A true symbol for Hellenes to rally under in the spirit of brotherhood and Hellenic unity.

Symbolism

The Vergina Sun – the sunburst design is normally associated with the ancient Hellenic kingdom of Macedonia, which united the Hellenic city-states and kingdoms into a united identity against the threat of ancient Persia. The design has been used in Hellenic art throughout the ancient Hellenic world being found in Athens, Thrace, Corfu and across the Middle East. Whether or not it was the official emblem of the Argead dynasty that ruled Macedonia is unclear. What is known is that it held a religious meaning representing the Twelve Gods of Olympus and the four elements.

The Meander- a decorative element in Hellenic art and architecture. It takes it name from the Maeander River and is sometimes known as meandros and maiandros although only by some historians. The Meander was an important symbol in ancient Ellada and symbolized infinity and unity. The symbol was used widely on Hellenic temples and on Hellenic vases and even the shield of Philip II of Macedon.

The Truth about the Hellenic Riots of 2008

By Ioannis Fidanakis

Outrage and anger have spilt onto the streets of Athens, spreading like wildfire across an entire nation and even abroad. The youth of Ellada, future leaders of a nation have taken to the streets to protest the corrupt puppet government of Athens. What has set the wheels of Revolution spinning? Has the youth finally taken action against those who would sell Hellenic history and identity? Perhaps they are fed up with the continued Occupation of our brothers and sisters in Cyprus? Or maybe our youth have awakened to the reality of the Athenian satellite government’s failure to provide for the Hellenic people? Sadly enough none of these reasons are the spark that lit the flames of discontent that have engulfed Ellada. Rather the event that has unleashed such an outcry across our motherland comes from the death of a boy. The boy was 15 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos, who was killed by police following an altercation between police and 30 anarchists in the Exarcheia district of the city of Athens. For those who do not know of the Exarcheia district, it is the famous home of the anarchist movement inside Ellada. Here in the ‘free zone’ anarchists live outside of the Hellenic establishment, and it is here where our story begins. First off, why parents would allow their 15 year old child to hang out in the ‘free zone’ is be on me. If the blame for this tragedy falls on anyone, it should fall on all of us. We have failed Alexandros, by allowing him to fall through the cracks. He should have been raised better and not allowed to fall into the hands of those who would put him in harms way, but this fact will go un-argued during this time of crisis. What is known is that little alexandros was shot by officer Epaminondas Korkoneas, whether on purpose or accidentally is anyone’s guess. This however, isn’t as important as many would like you to believe. What is important are the events surrounding the actual shooting. Why did the officer shoot in the first place? Friends of the boy claim he was killed without provocation while attending a friend’s name day party. Police say the poor child was killed while attempting to throw a Molotov cocktail at police. Two very different stories and with the location of the shooting and the unlikehood of the friends story, the police story seems much more realistic. If this is the case, of course the boy would be shot at – would you let someone throw a Molotov cocktail at you, regardless of their age.

It is this event that has caused all of Ellada to be turned into a rioter’s paradise. As riots spread from Athens to Thessaloniki and be on. Places like Kavala, Komotini, Alexandroupoli, Rhodes, Xanthi, Drama, the list goes on and on, all witnessing acts of violence and protest against the current government in Athens. Shops, banks, cars, even a Christmas tree and possibility a museum have been targeted for destruction. Using the refuge of University grounds, which Hellenic police are not allowed to enter, bands of anarchists have turned schools into their base of operations. Entering out only to converge on police and destroy the property of fellow citizens, before retreating to safety. In Thessaloniki reports are pouring out of battles that have destroyed Media vehicles and even an apartment building. High School students across the country have taken to the streets with eggs and color bombs to protest against what they call ‘police brutality’. The very smell of revolution is in the air and is being manipulated by the political left in hopes of over throwing the Karamanlis government so we can replace one corrupt political family for another.

These anarchists and socialists wish to portray themselves as patriots fighting police brutality, yet the truth is what kind of patriot attacks the working man? What did the owners of the shops do to have their personal property destroyed? These attacks are nothing more then senseless acts of cowardliness and nothing more. If you are truly against the system and its brutality why would you attack your fellow man who also suffers under the same system, rather then attack the beast itself? The left’s usage of Alexandros’ death to turn Ellada into chaos is unacceptable. Regardless of the senseless loss of a child – two wrongs don’t make a right.

Dear Mark,

Hello I’ve attached just some basic information about the Star of Vergina and
the copyright below from the WIPO web site. The last 3 links shows the 3
different designs based on the number of star bursts that are copyrighted by the
Greek state. Also the flag is the official flag of the Macedonia inside the
Greek state. So you can see where the problem would be with them having it on
their card.

Here it gives info about the copyrights of flags and emblems.

BAGHDAD, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Kurdish forces tasked with protecting the Iraqi Parliament building were harassed by guards belonging to the prime minister, a Kurdish media outlet said.

What is the rightful name of FYR Macedonia?

Australian Macedonian Advisory Council
November 30, 1999

From the outset of FYROM's independence, Greece declared it had no claims on FYROM's territory. Greece's only serious grievance was, and still is, the use by FYROM of the name "Macedonia" and its derivatives.

Greece has already compromised by accepting the name "Macedonia" in the Interim Accord of 1995 (Former Yugoslavia Republic of Macedonia). Skopje must understand Greece's sensitivity on this issue, because for more than fifty years the name problem has always been used as a pretext to create a 'United Macedonia' (originally under Yugoslavia).
