Τα «30 αργύρια» του Michael McMahon

Τανέρης, ιδρυτής και εκπρόσωπος Τύπου της Cyprus Action Network of America
(CANA).

NEW YORK— The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) picketed Congressman
Michael McMahon's (D-NY-13) March 27th Turkish fundraiser in New York. Activists
and community members of local Greek-American groups are outraged that McMahon
accepts Turkish blood money. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA)
has issued a press release and a grassroots you tube video covering this action.
The ANCA has participated in the Greek-Cypriot July 20th demonstrations outside
the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC to mark the criminal Turkish invasion of
Cyprus. Armenian ANCA activists have also been very active in Pontian Greek
Genocide recognition, joining several lectures with George Mavropoulos of the
Pontian Greek Society in Chicago on genocide recognition, including a joint
event in San Diego at the National Council for the Social Studies in Dec. 07 on
the "Forgotten Genocides." Visit www.anca.org and do a search on the Pontian

ARMENIAN AND GREEK AMERICAN ACTIVISTS OF NEW YORK CITY OUTRAGED OVER MCMAHON’S
EFFORTS TO PROFIT FROM VOTE AGAINST GENOCIDE RESOLUTION

-- Republican Congressional Candidates in NY-13 Urge Passage of Armenian
Genocide Resolution (H.Res.252)

New York, NY – Staten Island Congressman Michael McMahon's (D-NY-13) March 27th
fundraiser was picketed by local community groups outraged over his acceptance
of campaign donations from interests who backed his recent vote as a member of
the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee to block American recognition of the
Armenian Genocide.

The luncheon reception for the Congressman was held at the Ali Baba Terrace
restaurant and attracted nearly 25 guests including several members of the
Turkey's diplomatic corp. More than twice that number protested outside,
handing out thousands of fliers alerting local residents and voters about the
Congressman's voting record.

“Given the timing of the fundraiser, it’s clear that Congressman McMahon is
cashing in on his recent vote against passage of the Armenian Genocide
Resolution,” said Paul Saryian, an ANCA activist from Staten Island.
“Congressional Representatives should not be rewarded for their complicity in
genocide denial or for supporting Turkey’s current aggression towards
minorities.”

Rep. McMahon's inaction in the face of Turkey's 36-year illegal occupation of
Cyprus and silence on Turkey's repression of its Christian community prompted
broad presence by local Greek and Cypriot activist. “We are convinced that if
Turkey had been punished for its atrocities committed against Armenians, the
invasion of Cyprus and crimes committed against Greek Cypriots would have never
happened,” said Nikolaos Taneris, founder and press officer of Cyprus Action
Network of America (CANA). “With his recent vote and contributions he is
receiving by the Turkish community, McMahon is now complicit in these crimes
against humanity.”

Republican Congressional candidates Michael Allegretti and Michael Grimm, vying
for the Republican nomination to unseat Rep. McMahon in November, have pledged
support for Armenian Genocide legislation. “I urge the members of the House
Foreign Relations to stand-up and recognize the genocide, which took place
between 1915-1923. It is unspeakable that one and a half million Armenians lost
their lives in an effort to erase them from their homeland. Passage of this
resolution would be a positive step for the region,” said Allegretti, prior to
the Committee consideration of the Armenian Genocide Resolution on March 4th,
which passed by a vote of 23 to 22.

“There is no doubt that reconciliation talks between Armenia and Turkey cannot
continue in a meaningful way until all parties recognize what happened, and that
is why I urge Congressman McMahon to reconsider his position, take a more
expansive view of the global implications and do the right thing by supporting
this resolution,” said Grimm in a recently issued statement to the ANCA.

In remarks before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. McMahon used
euphemistic language to avoid proper characterization of the Ottoman Turkish
goverment's murder of 1.5 million Armenians from 1915-1923. He went on to cite
support for the Turkey-Armenia Protocols - an agreement widely seen as the
Turkish Government's latest attempt to derail international recognition of the
Armenian Genocide. U.S. Department of Justice Foreign Agent Registration
records reveal that Turkey's lobbyists in Washington have contacted Rep.
McMahon's office over a dozen times of the past year to secure his support for
the initiatives. The March 27th fundraising reception was the latest in
Turkish-American efforts to support his re-election bid.

DEVELOPING STORY: CONGRESSMAN MCMAHON GENOCIDE DENIER

For Immediate Release: March 15, 2010

Contact: Nikolaos Taneris, New York, Tel. 1-917-699-9935

NEW YORK--The current (March 12-March 19, 2010) weekly edition of The National
Herald TNH has published two articles by young Greek American journalist Eleni
Kostopoulos on Congressman McMahon and genocide denial. One of the articles
appeared in the ‘Community News’ section and is titled (Community dismayed by
narrow genocide vote by Eleni Kostopoulos ,March 12, 2010) , it covers
Congressman McMahon’s morally repugnant support of Turkish interests during the
recent House Foreign Affairs vote on the Armenian genocide, and McMahon’s
disregard for his own Greek American constituency. The other article titled
(Denial is not just a river in Egypt... or in Turkey by Eleni Kostopoulos, March
12, 2010) covers the issue of immorality and genocide denial. In regards to
Congressman McMahon’s NO vote to Armenian Genocide recognition resolution in the
House, Eleni Kostopoulos writes “I was particularly bothered by this narrow
margin victory when I was informed that the congressman who represents my
district (a district comprised of an estimated 20,000 Greek Americans) was one
of those 22 voters against the resolution. Michael McMahon is a congressman I
will not vote for come congressional elections.”

The National Herald TNH is the leading English language national newspaper of
the Greek American Community. In addition, TNH’s website (and its Greek language
version www.ekirikas.com) receives thousands of subscriptions annually from all
around the United States and the world. TNH is considered the most serious and
objective newspaper and website of reference for the Greek Diaspora.

The two National Herald Articles TNH ((Community dismayed by narrow genocide
vote by Eleni Kostopoulos, March 12, 2010) and (Denial is not just a river in
Egypt... or in Turkey by Eleni Kostopoulos, March 12, 2010) are reproduced below
for educational purposes. Directly following the two articles is a recent
editorial by a Turkish lobby media outlet praising Congressman McMahon. The

Community Dismayed by Narrow Genocide Vote
Eleni Kostopoulos

Greek American and Armenian members of the District 13 community in New York
City have expressed indignation regarding the vote cast by U.S. Representative
Michael McMahon (D-NY) opposing the Armenian Genocide resolution last week in
the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House voted narrowly (23-22) on March 4
to condemn the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 as genocide.

NEW YORK – Greek American and Armenian members of the District 13 community in
New York City have expressed indignation regarding the vote cast by U.S.
Representative Michael McMahon (D-NY) opposing the Armenian Genocide resolution
last week in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House voted narrowly
(23-22) on March 4 to condemn the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 as
genocide, resisting a plea from the Obama administration to forgo a vote that
would likely offend Turkey.

Mr. McMahon, who is also on the sub-committee on Europe of the House Foreign
Affairs Committee, could not be reached by The National Herald for comment
before deadline.

Peter Vlitas, executive of the local AHEPA Chapter in Bay Ridge, said the aim of
a meeting the chapter organized last week was to decide on and send a letter to
Mr. McMahon asking him to vote in favor of the recognition of Genocide.

“We want to show that our community is organized, and that we took the
initiative to support the vote to recognize the Genocide against the Armenians”,
Mr. Vlitas said. “Within our AHEPA chapter, there are executives as well as
members of cultural societies. We are organized citizens, voters in the region
that Congressman McMahon represents and we are interested and concerned about
similar issues.”

Mr. McMahon’s potential congressional opponent for the 13th Congressional
District, Michael Allegretti told TNH that he firmly advocated for the passing
of Resolution 252.

“To put it simply, there’s a right side and a wrong side of history and any
public official must stand on the right side of history,” said Mr. Allegretti,
who is a life-long resident of Staten Island, NY. “It’s something that I was
very proud to do for sake of saying what’s right. It’s unconscionable to me that
our current congressman is unable to see that and to speak to the values that
people in our district expect from people who represent them in government.”

Mr. McMahon, who represents Staten Island, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, and
Gravesend in Brooklyn, joined the Hellenic Caucus to pledge support for Cyprus
and the Patriarchate. He joined the Turkish Caucus May of last year.

The following list presents the vote tally on H. Res. 252: Howard L. Berman
(pro); Gary L. Ackerman (pro); Eni F.H. Faleomavaega (pro); Donald M. Payne
(pro); Brad Sherman (pro); Eliot L. Engel (pro); Bill Delahunt (con); Gregory W.
Meeks (con); Diane E. Watson (pro); Russ Carnahan (con); Albio Sires (pro);
Gerald E. Connolly (con); Michael E. McMahon (con); John S. Tanner (con); Gene
Green (pro); Lynn Woolsey (pro); Sheila Jackson Lee (—); Barbara Lee (pro);
Shelley Berkley (pro); Joseph Crowley (pro); Mike Ross (con); Brad Miller (con);
David Scott (con); Jim Costa (pro); Keith Ellison (pro); Gabrielle Giffords
(pro); Ron Klein (pro); Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (con); Christopher H. Smith (pro);
Dan Burton (con); Elton Gallegly (pro); Dana Rohrabacher (pro); Donald A.
Manzullo (pro); Edward R. Royce (pro); Ron Paul (con); Jeff Flake (con); Mike
Pence (con); Joe Wilson (con); John Boozman (con); J. Gresham Barrett (con);
Connie Mack (con); Jeff Fortenberry (con); Michael T. McCaul (con); Ted Poe
(con); Bob Inglis (con); Gus Bilirakis (pro).

It is estimated that the number of slaughtered Armenians is 1,500,000. The
Armenian Genocide occurred in parallel with genocide against Christian and other
populations of the Ottoman Empire like the Pontian Greeks and the Assyrian
(Nestorian Christians).

Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt... Or in Turkey
Eleni Kostopoulos

NEW YORK- Denial is most often defined as the disbelief in the existence or
reality of something. Alcoholics usually deny their addictions. Criminals
frequently deny their wrongdoings. Bill Clinton denied any sexual relations. Oh
yes, denial is both convenient and dangerous. But denial is something that has
been gracing the headlines of all our reading material lately. New York Gov.
Paterson denied coercing the victim of alleged assault and Iranian President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denied Sept. 11 (and the U.S. media chastised both figures
critically).

Another outrageous yet not-surprising headline: Turkey denies the Armenian
genocide - and so do 22 members of a congressional committee - members elected
by me, you and the next person, who collectively lost in their efforts to reject
the declaration deeming the mass murder of more than 1.5 million people a
“genocide” by just ONE vote on March 4. What’s next? Denying the Holocaust?
Maybe if you’re Ahmadinejad.
I was particularly bothered by this narrow margin victory when I was informed
that the congressman who represents my district (a district comprised of an
estimated 20,000 Greek Americans) was one of those 22 voters against the
resolution. Michael McMahon is a congressman I will not vote for come
congressional elections. In a press release defending his stance McMahon said:
“Instead of looking backwards to the turn of the 20th century, we need to look
forward in the 21st century.” If history is bound to repeat itself, Mr. McMahon,
it is crucial to acknowledge it and learn from it, not to deny facts and
figures. Some speculate his position is fueled by Turkish lobby money while
others say it could be the influence of his Turkish foreign affairs Legislative
Assistant Naz Turkoglu, for introducing him to the Turkish American community.
Either way, Mr. McMahon represents a mere 997 Turks in his district and as Greek
Americans who can relate to the atrocities experienced by the Armenian
population, who measure far higher in numbers but who don’t get out there to
vote quite enough, it is our duty to be especially vocal to those who represent
us.

Let’s not deny our own rights as citizens.

Perhaps it can be argued that it is not the place of the U.S. Congress to debate
an issue that occurred 95 years ago when there are more current atrocities in
our world that must be dealt with. Perhaps it is not the place of U.S. Congress
even more so considering our genocidal policy toward Native Americans in the
19th century, among other morally questionable historic strategies. But
re-writing history to avoid offending Turkey or harming U.S.-Turkish relations
is not only ethically unacceptable, it’s the harshest form of denial.

House Resolution 252 did not call for any action to be taken by Turkey - not
even an apology to the families whose ancestors suffered malicious, horrid
deaths. The resolution is more about documenting history accurately - history
that is supported by thousands of documents both here in the United States and
abroad. The U.S.’s position on the matter, however, does not even seem to be
about anything but politics and wallets.

Our nation’s longtime denial of the Armenian genocide has encouraged Turkey's
false notion of mass killings and should serve as an eye-opener to the
wide-spread and well-funded propaganda that threatens us all here and now, and
tomorrow. This issue is about humanity and the acknowledgement of truth - a
truth that should have been recognized a long time ago and possibly could have
changed the course of history and aspects of the Holocaust that followed.

As for a potential reconciliation between Turkey and Armenia that now remains
“jeopardized” due to the passing of the resolution, we need to really question
whether such a settlement was possible to begin with, or will be any time soon.
If Turkey was serious about taking gradual steps toward improving
Turkish-Armenian relations, acknowledging wrongdoing in the face of overwhelming
factual evidence would be a much more effective means of progress.

The idea that negative aspects of history are best forgotten in the interest of
politics is deplorable. As both survivors and relatives of victims of the first
ethnic cleansing of the 20th century would probably agree, after 95 long years,
it’s time for this denial to end.

An Ugly Attack towards the Representative by the Greeks
Monday, 01 March 2010 09:14

It was reported that the representative Michael McMahon from New York 13, who
enjoyed the applause and the support of the Turkish-American community shortly
after Robert Wexler – who stood against the so-called Armenian genocide and won
the heart of the Turkish-American community - was currently under the pressure
of the Armenian and Greek groups.

In his article, Alex Aliferis of America’s Southern Cyprus Action Network
establishment stated that there are 20 thousand Greek-Americans in the
jurisdiction of the representative McMahon who is known by the nickname “Rising
Star” by the Turkish-American community, and called the on Greek-American
community to protest him.

Aliferis, who said that McMahon by not recognizing the Armenian Genocide sides
with the Turks and backs Azerbaijan in the Karabagh conflict, also said that the
Greek-American community cannot trust this man, who is also expected to deny the
so-called Greek and Syrian genocides of Asia Minor.

House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee member McMahon promised
that he would not be casting a “yes” vote to the H.Res.252 which recognizes the
so –called Armenian Genocide. The author states that despite the Turkish threats
to occupy Iraq, the Armenian resolution barely passed the Foreign Relations
Committee and recommends the Greek-American community not to trust McMahon.

The author while targeting the representative because of his fair attitude
towards Turkey, who participated in the events along with the Turkish-American
community, where he emphasized the importance of the Turkish-Greek friendship,
states that McMahon may be scared and, as a result, may cast a “Yes” vote if the
thousands of Greek-Americans in all the 50 states of America acted together.

The author encourages the Greek-American community to call McMahon at
202-225-3371 at his Washington office, and states that it is essential to put
pressure on the representative to cast a “Yes” at the March 4 vote.

The Turkish-American community defends/protects Michael McMahon

The Assistant Director of ATAA Ali Cinar while stating that Michael McMahon is a
very valuable friend of Turks and works for the world peace, he also reminds
that McMahon, at his reception last month, expressed that Turks and Greeks live
together and gave the “I want to create stronger bridges between peoples”
message. Cinar said that the Greeks’ frustration is a trump for Armenians and
added that everybody including our Turkish citizens should defend and support
McMahon in his district.

In addition, TADF Assistant Director Can Kaplan expressed their deep
appreciation for McMahon who was present in the Foreign Relations Committee and
lobbied really hard so his fellow members would cast a “No” vote, and added that
the Greek pressure will be fruitless. Kaplan also expressed that they worked
together with McMahon on many occasions, and said “Our goal is to support and
defend all the representatives who support our people and the Turkish-American
relations.”

Cınar and Kaplan asked the Turkish-American people to make telephone calls to
McMahon’s Washington offices to say “thank you” or deliver their thanks in
person at the district offices in order to show their support for Michael
McMahon in the strongest possible terms.

Press release
Finally a historic resolution

It is with great joy that we announce that today, Thursday March 11 the Swedish
Parliament has voted for the recognition of the Genocide of the Pontian Greeks and the
Christian minorities in Ottoman Turkey. Our association Evxinos Pontos Stockholm
congratulates and applauses the Parliament’s decision to recognize the Genocide. We
believe that this recognition will strengthen the Turkish state’s democratization and the
ongoing research about the Genocide.
Our association wants first and for most thank the Armenian and Assyrian National
Federations for the great cooperation that we had all these years in this matter. Without
this cooperation, it wouldn’t be possible to carry on this long, hard and complicated
process. We would also like to thank all the members of Parliament that have supported
our work all these years and with their votes made it possible for us to have a recognition
of the Genocide. At the same time we would like to thank the members of Parliament
Hans Linde and Fredrik Malm and the former member of Parliament Tasso Stafilidis for
their help to present our plead in the Swedish Parliament.

Our president about the recognition
– This is a redress for our forefathers. The recognition is an historic event, not just for
Sweden but for the whole world. The recognition is the result of our hard work all these
years together with the Armenians and the Assyrians here in Sweden. We have shown the
world that justice always wins at the end and history cannot be rewritten by nations or
individuals. The Genocide is an historic event, one of the darkest pages of world history
books and we hope that Sweden’s recognition will open the eyes of other democratic
countries around the world and do the same. We humbly thank all individuals,
organizations and members of Parliament that have worked for the recognition of the
Genocide, says the association’s president Konstantinos Fraggidis.
Evxinos Pontos Stockholm will continue to support our Swedish society with
information so that we all can continue further with an international recognition.
Once again we want to present our gratitude to all that have helped us to carry out
this recognition in the Swedish Parliament.

For the association’s board,
Konstantinos Fraggidis
President

Open letter to PSEKA and the Congressmen

(1) PDF COPY OF CONGRESSIONAL LETTER DATED MARCH 03 2010 RELEASED BY PSEKA ON
MARCH 08,2010
http://cyprusactionnetwork.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Cyprus-LettertoSecrClinton.6804948.pdf

(2) PDF OF OPEN LETTER TO PSEKA AND THE CONGRESSMEN BY FANOULLA ARGYROU
http://cyprusactionnetwork.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Open_letter_to_PSEKA_and_the_CongressmendocPDF.6805236.pdf

We have received through email despatches from PSEKA a congressional letter sent
to Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton dated 3 March 2010 signed by Gus M.
Bilirakis, Elton Gallegly, Shelley Berkley, Jim Costa and Michael McMahon,
members of Congress.

Assuming that this letter was prepared signed and sent with the involvement and
persuasion of PSEKA, it is regrettable in the least to notice such a low tone
demand from the Secretary of State.

What these congressmen ought to have demanded many days ago from Secretary
Clinton was “the immediate and unconditional recall and replacement of her
Ambassador to Turkey”.

Nothing of the sort happened. It was indeed PSEKA’s obligation and duty deriving
from its sole existence, to have demanded the recall and replacement of the
American Ambassador within 24 hours, with a letter written on its own headed
paper and signed by its Executive. Nothing of the sort happened.

Not days but a whole month later (statement by James Jeffrey made on 3 February
2010 this letter dated 3 March 2010) these congressmen come up with this
meaningless letter demanding nothing in actual fact. For “what” this letter is
circulated, I honestly wonder!

If only it underpins, unfortunately, the inaptitude and negligent indifference
of PSEKA to act immediately and decisively on matters of PRINCIPLE and confirms
that this organisation, has since long outlived its usefulness.

Because, PSEKA’s coming into being, was not this kind of damaging inactivity or
the annual…celebrational conferences in Washington. As for the ones visiting
Cyprus every August, there is no need to elaborate further. It has been
established since long that they are only good for annual paid up holidays for
selective individuals from all over the world and the traditional (sic) wine and
dine party in the presidential garden…

Coming back to the content of the letter of 3 March 2010 by the congressmen
referred above addressed to Secretary Clinton, this letter refers to two
matters:

a) The statement made by James Jeffrey on 3 February 2010, in his capacity as
the US Ambassador to Turkey, namely: “Turkey … doesn’t invade neighbours… it has
security concerns in Cyprus …”

In their letter, the congressmen demand NOTHING from Hilary Clinton, who must be
well pleased for not being obliged to do anything!

b) It refers to a State Department’s decision “not to provide the Cyprus
government with $2.5 million for the Limnitis crossing of the Green Line in
Cyprus”, claiming that “…this is needed to restore American’s credibility after
the 2004 debacle in order to help facilitate continued peaceful interaction
between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots”.

Well, if the congressmen and PSEKA are really interested in regaining American’s
credibility they will certainly NOT achieve it by paying ANY amount of money for
Limnitis!

As refugees we are more interested in seeing America pressurise “its vital ally
Turkey” to get her 40,000 strong military back to their barracks in Turkey
together with the 180,000 (number increases and differs from month to month)
Anatolian settlers back to where they were brought from, away from our stolen
land and properties.

If these congressmen have the real will and determination, let them “stop and
think” as to WHY the Turkish demand for the RACIST so called “Bizonal,
Bicommunal Federation”, which they all blindly support, has NOT been possible to
be enforced...

I urge them to call upon their own Dr. Henry Kissinger and ask him about his
meeting with the Foreign Office officials sent to Washington by the then British
Foreign Secretary James Callaghan and which took place in the State Department
on 27 August 1974, and ask Dr. Henry Kissinger himself to repeat to them in his
answerto the British officials, when they told him that the policy they were to
promote vigorously for Cyprus was the BIZONAL BICOMMUNAL FEDERATION (BI-REGIONAL
they called it at the time), namely: He told them “Two to three chances your
policy will fail”, believing that the Greek Cypriots would never accept that
solution and he was right, at least on that respect.

No matter how hard they will keep on trying, the Greek Cypriot’s reply will be a
strong “NO”.

Yours sincerely,

Fanoulla Argyrou

Congressman McMahon Represents Turkish Interests over Greek-American constituency

McMahon Votes against Armenian Genocide Resolution despite calls, meetings by
Greek Americans

By Alex Aliferis

March 7, 2010

Congressman Michael McMahon (D-NY-13) voted against the Armenian Genocide
Resolution on Thursday’s House Foreign Affairs Committee markup, despite calls
of support from Greek American constituents.

The Armenian Genocide Resolution, H.Res. 252 passed the House Foreign Affairs
Committee with 23 yes and 22 no's. Congressman Michael McMahon who represents a
heavy Greek American population of 20,000 voted ‘No’ on the Armenian Genocide.

The AHEPA Brooklyn Chapter President George Georgaklis mobilized Greek American
constituents in the New York Thirteenth District to meet with Congressman
McMahon
(http://www.thenationalherald.com/photos?PageNum_photos=1&album_id=5464). The
group urged the Congressman to vote ‘Yes’ on the Armenian Genocide.

Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) mobilized the Greek American community
into having a voice on this important national issue.
Brooklyn constituents of the pro-Turkish Congressman Michael McMahon called in,
and urged their Congressman to vote Yes on the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

The Turkish Coalition of America TCA President Lincoln McCurdy announced to the
world that Congressman McMahon is the new rising star in the Turkish
Caucus/Lobby to replace former Congressman Wexler who resigned from Congress,
earlier this year. This special Turkish Lobby event was videotaped and uploaded
to YouTube and Turkish multimedia on Feb 10, 2010.

http://www.historyoftruth.com/videos/5580-tca-presentation-for-reps-wexler-and-mcmahon-part-1

Congressman McMahon sits on the House Foreign Relations Committee and is
considered the top Turkey supporter on the Subcommittee on Europe, he never
openly noted Turkey’s crimes against humanity and Turkish human rights
violations on Cyprus.

Congressman McMahon’s past questions to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on
Cyprus did not question the U.S. State Department’s failure to urge the
withdrawal of 40,000 illegal Turkish occupation troops. Congressman McMahon did
not condemn over 500 Christian Cypriot churches destroyed by Turkey. Congressman
McMahon did not call for a return of the Greek Cypriot refugees to their homes
or properties. Congressman McMahon did not call for an end to the illegal
Turkish occupation since July 20, 1974.

On April 22, 2009, at a House Foreign Affairs committee hearing Congressman
McMahon mentioned only the USAID funding oversight to Cyprus which includes
giving US money for projects in Turkish military occupied Cyprus. At the Feb 25,
2010, committee hearing with Secretary of State Clinton, Congressman McMahon
failed to raise the question of the legal right of return for 180,000 Greek
Cypriots to their homes, Congressman McMahon did not urge the State Department
to call on Turkey to withdraw its 40,000 illegal troops from Cyprus.

On July 20, 2009, Congressman McMahon did not offer an extension of remarks to
the Congressional Record to condemn the July 20, 1974 Turkish invasion and
occupation of Cyprus. However, he issued a remark in the congressional record
supporting the Turkish sponsored Turkey-Armenian Protocols on October 29, 2009.
These protocols would support a Turkish panel to investigate the Turkish lobby
so-called Armenian Allegations.

One small fact to note, Turkish Coalition of America lobbyist Bruce Fein was
also a lobbyist for the Tamil Tigers from Sri Lanka. The Tamil Tigers illegally
tried to partition Northern Sri Lanka into a Tamil sponsored homeland. The Tamil
Hindus(10-18%) committed crimes against the majority Sinhalese Buddhists(73%).
McMahon issued a congressional remark in support of the Tamils on November 3,
2009 being mistreated by the Sri Lankan Sinhalese officials. In 2009, the Sri
Lankan military successfully unified Sri Lanka from the Tamil Tigers who
illegally partitioned the island nation. They obtained certain support from
India’s Hindus.

According to Armenian news sources, McMahon noted at the hearing of U.S. House
Committee on Foreign Affairs, adoption of resolution will seriously harm US’
efforts in Afghanistan. “Adoption of Armenian Genocide resolution will harm
Armenia-Turkey rapprochement as well as Karabakh issue. “I support withdrawal of
US forces from Afghanistan. In case Turkey’s territory becomes closed to US, we
will be induced to withdraw forces through more dangerous routes,” he stressed.
This is a Turkish lobby argument by the Turkish Coalition of America.

Ten Democrats voted against the Armenian Genocide Resolution; Bill Delahunt
(MA), Gregory Meeks(NY), Russ Carnahan(MO), Gerard Connolly(VA), Michael
McMahon(NY), John Tanner(TN), Mike Ross(AR), Brad Miller(NC), David Scott(GA),
and Sheila Jackson Lee(TX). Thirteen Republicans voted against the resolution;
Dan Burton(IN), Ron Paul(TX), Jeff Flake(AZ), Mike Pence(IN), Joe Wilson(SC),
John Boozman(AR), J.Gresham Barrett(SC), Connie Mack(FL), Jeff Fortenberry(NE),
Michael McCaul(TX), Ted Poe(TX), Bob Inglis(SC), and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen(FL).
Within Subcommittee of Europe members, Chairman Democrat Congressman Bill
Delahunt (MA) voted against the Armenian Genocide, while the Republican Ranking
Member Congressman Elton Gallegly (CA) votes Yes on the Armenian Genocide.

If many constituents have contacted a Congressman, he/she will vote YES or NO
depending on the volume of calls, letters, and meetings with constituents. In
the case of Congressman McMahon, he heard but chose to ignore calls/meetings
from Greek American constituents in order to support the Turkish Coalition of
America position on the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

McMahon does not listen to his constituents, but to the Turkish government
funded lobby, the Turkish Coalition of America.

Greek vs. Turkish Populations in McMahon's district:
Please view the following two charts for your information, which list the top 20
districts with Greek and Turkish populations.

You can see that McMahon has the 8th largest Greek American population, but only
the 20th largest Turkish American population.

Gus Bilirakis

John Sarbanes

Ν. Karacostas
