NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) is happy to announce that
Political Ethnic Greek Prisoner of Conscience Harry Nicolaides has been
officially released from prison in Thailand and is back home with his family in
Australia. CANA was the only organization in the organized Greek and Greek
Cypriot communities in America to actively campaign for Harry Nicolaides’
unconditional release from prison in Thailand. We thank the thousands of
activists on the CANA E-List, the vast network of bloggers and internet
community groups who responded to our organized e-Alerts, letter writing
campaigns and demonstration outside of the Thai consulate in New York last
month. HARRY IS NOW FREE! WELCOME HOME BROTHER! WELCOME HOME HARRY NICOLAIDES!
We extend best wishes to his family in Australia and Cyprus, and we were proud
to act and march for our brother’s freedom. We did not forget you, and WE WILL
NEVER FORGET OUR ETHNIC GREEK BROTHERS.
Greeks rally to free Harry by Helena Smith, Published 19 February 2009
Urgent petitions, launched mostly by ethnic Greeks living in America and
Australia, have been started in cyberspace. . A blog, Bring Harry Home, has
collected nearly 9,000 signatures since its launch early this month. In letters
written from jail (penned in Greek using Latin script, in an ingenious move to
avoid being understood by prison guards), Nicolaides has described the awful
conditions of incarceration.
