Nov 2, 2008
Greek Americans gathered to offer tribute to Greek victims of Communism on November 2, 2008 in front of the Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington DC.
Those who came had family who were killed by communists in Greece in the 1940?s.
“I came to offer tribute to Greek victims of communism,” said Alex Aliferis. He said,
“My great grandfather, his two sons, a total of over 10 in my family were killed in a well in Meligalas, Greece in 1944.” Aliferis? grandfather escaped execution by running into the Taygetos mountains.
Ed Priola, Director of Public Affairs, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation attended the tribute. He hopes to work with the Greek American community to document and insert the Greek experience in the Foundation?s future museum. Talks are still in the works to build an actual museum dedicated to victims of communism somewhere near the Memorial.
